So lovely you have your dad's old tools. Also good that you have a job where you're not constantly planning retirement. I expect to be working to a fine old age, so like to pace myself ;) Luluhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03813580414277450810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7402923017470707067.post-6455153548107102512022-01-24T18:38:38.234+00:002022-01-24T18:38:38.234+00:00Fair. There is nothing worse than being cooped up and wanting to do something, but being unable to do so.

Your observation on the reality of "life in the actual world" reflects almost every writer and practitioner on the subject. The modern world has removed us so far from these sorts of things that for most people, it seems incredible that someone would voluntarily work in the cold (but, I suppose, good news for you in making a living!).

I have to agree with your assessment of hand tools versus power tools. I can injury myself with hand tools to be sure, but the chances that that injury is going to be life threatening is far less significant. And, there is the fact that instead of high decibel whines and howls, there is the much more pleasing sounds of saws and hammers. That said, they do indeed have a place - for the infinity of trees that are down at The Ranch now, nothing but a chainsaw will do.

Your comment about retirement is perceptive, as is the realization that even though you are going through everything you are going through, it is still more rewarding than being trapped in a job that neither fed your soul nor you loved. You are precisely right - you may end up working more years, but it will be at something you enjoy and likely see as something you will not want to "retire" from.Toirdhealbheach Beucailhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14872794169534403463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7402923017470707067.post-4691552835611888762022-01-23T08:35:42.259+00:002022-01-23T08:35:42.259+00:00you’re so right about the tip breaking off Blackth...you’re so right about the tip breaking off Blackthorn barbs, makes them all the more fun to dig out...not.
Finance dictates that even the scouring of charity shops and the dreaded fleabay for a coat will have to wait unfortunately, times are hard lass.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13845113520987402425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7402923017470707067.post-58356266311640053952022-01-23T07:22:27.924+00:002022-01-23T07:22:27.924+00:00Oooh, Blackthorn thorns - they ARE barstewards! I can remember having to put poultices on horses with these buried deep into their legs - the tip tends to break off and an abscess can result.

Check the charity shops for a good working coat or Ebay. Nothing worse than not having a windproof jacket in winter. Don't overdo things!
